It’s all about what works for you in this particular time of your life, your living situation and your budget. I am going to talk about why this item works so well for me, I’ll explain to you in detail how it works and what I don’t like about it to help you figure out if this product is right for you.

Is the Omega Paw Litter Box right for you?

We’ve been using this “self cleaning” littler box for almost a year now, we have 8 cats, they all use it. I personally love this littler box because it gets the every day job done in a minute. We even bought some for our friends and family’s christmas gifts. It’s just so easy to use, I already want to get another one but they do require a bit of extra space.

Honestly, it’s hard to give this item a plain rating. It’s all about what works for you in this particular time in your life, on your living situation, how big your house is, your budget… if you are not concerned about how much money you spend on littler boxes, this item is not for you. If I had a bigger budget I would definitely get a Petkit or a litter robot or any of those fancy self cleaning litter boxes that you can monitor with an app and you don’t even have to lift a finger. I simply can’t afford one of those right now. I’ve seen them, they look amazing and they have wonderful reviews but, we are on a tight budget, I am renting a home, I have 8 cats! It’s already expensive enough to have to feed them every day and take them to the vet…this item it’s the perfect self-cleaning box when you don’t have tons of extra cash coming in every month.

It’s definitely a small step up from a regular litter box.

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews about this item and I think is because people expect too much of it when they hear the words ‘Self Cleaning’, they expect this to do more than what it actually does. This item is about $50 (depending on the model you get) which is already a lot for some people, it is not electric.

You do have to actually open it up and clean it regularly like you would and should ANY litter box!

This item is simply an upgrade from your regular litter box so you don’t have to even bend down every day (or a x number of times a day depending on how many cats you actually have).

I know it sounds like everything I say about this litter box is good. Keep in mind it’s not perfect and it does have its flaws and it doesn’t work for every single cat. We all know how cats can be set in their ways. You should first find out if your cat even likes to go potty in an enclosed area. Some cats refuse to go in a litter box with a lid.

If you have a kitten, you better introduce litter boxes with lids right away!

and that’s not just an advise for this litter box. You don’t want to have an open litter box forever. They are messy, the litter particles go flying all over your house, it gets stinky faster and it’s visually disgusting…

I have had open litter boxes in the past. It’s what worked for our kitties the first couple of months. They were tiny and we rescued them. They were sick a lot so we had to monitor their duties to make sure their health was improving and all that. Then, we got our second set of kittens, and when Coraline was 5 months old she broke her leg, she not only had to wear the cone of shame but she had a cast on her leg so it was impossible for her to get in a regular litter box. So yeah, there’s been times when just a plain box has worked out better for us.
I just recommend you introducing the litter boxes with lids as soon as you can.

Other litter boxes we’ve used

  • The Petmate Basic Hooded Litter Box was actually the first litter box with a lid that we ever got. It worked for us. The shape was a bit too awkward for me tho. I would rather it be square to actually utilize all the space that is taking, instead of having so much negative space at the bottom due to the nature of its shape. It got the job done but I didn’t purchase another one of those again. This litter box is around $25 to $47 on Amazon depending on the size you get. They do have a medium and a large and they come in a few different colors for funsies.

  • Then, we tried the So Phresh brand from Petco and we absolutely loved it. I still have 4 of these spread out around the house. I got them before I knew the Omega Paw existed. The one I got it’s called So Phresh Look at Meow Cat Litter Box Privacy Hood and So Phresh Pink Open Cat Litter Box it’s super cute. It’s definitely sturdy, made of a more durable plastic, and the door seems to work much better than other boxes. You do have to get the lid and the pan separately. Which I liked because then you can mix and match depending on availability, they have different colors and designs so you can pick whichever one works best for you.
Depending on the size you get, the regular size lid and pan combo are about $43 together.
They have these on Amazon and Petco

Omega Paw Easy Fill Roll ‘n Clean - UNBOXING

This video explains how easy it is to set up this litter box, and it’s probably easier if you have less cats climbing up on it and jumping in it as you set it up. I got this box a little bit after I got the second set of kittens so they were very active and very curious at the time.

Like I show in the video, it’s great that you don’t have to really put much thought into putting this litter box together, I usually don’t have the time nor patience to read instructions so I am one of those people who follows instructions of YouTube videos. I didn’t even have to google or YouTube anything, the item has great instructions on how to put it together and it even has little images on the packaging which is great if you are a visual learner like me.

Omega Paw Easy Fill Roll ‘n Clean - HOW TO USE

I recorded the first time we filled the litter box and when my kitties first used it. We have been using it for a year or so. My cats seem to prefer it over the other litter boxes and I do too!
Keep in mind location is key.

You should know by now, once you get a cat, you gotta play by their rules.
I have this box set up at my home office, right next to the So Phresh box. I work from home and my cats are always around me. So yeah, I have to keep two boxes by my desk.

I love having this one because I can just turn around and roll it clean from my office chair. It’s so convenient!

It’s just so easy. In this video I was on the floor and rolled it out but you don’t have to even get on you knees to clean it out. It’s great for anyone who has back or leg problems since you can roll it while sitting on a chair; it’s great for busy people that just don’t have the time to scoop out litter several times a day; it’s great for kids who are on litter duty! It’s a great way to give them some responsibility over their new cat they begged you to adopt; and, it’s great for lazy people who love their cats but just don’t have the energy to be scooping out litter all day.

Omega Paw Easy Fill Roll ‘n Clean- PROS

Cat inside the Omega Paw self cleaning litter box
  • Easy Assembly. It’s so simple to put together. The packaging does a great job explaining how to put it together. Watch my video in the ‘Unboxing’ section to see a demo.

  • No scooping needed. You just roll the box over all the way onto it’s top (like I show in the video). Sometimes some of the clumps do get stuck at the bottom so I just hit the bottom of the box to loosen any clumps that may be stuck, and then you just roll it back upright! The clumps should be all gather in the tray which then you just pull out and empty out. The clean litter will then slide back into the main box and will be clean with little to no effort.

  • No liners, filters or electricity needed. No batteries or plug needed, no motor. It’s just a much more practical regular litter box.

  • It controls dust and contains odors. Waste is not exposed to air or to you when cleaning it and it does a great job at containing dust when cats dig and bury their duties.

  • Cats love their privacy. My cats at least, they all love the shape of it and appreciate the privacy of the box.

  • Affordable! In comparison to other Self Cleaning Litter Boxes. The Omega Paw litter boxes come in a variety of sizes and models. They are all pretty reasonable. They are a little bit more expensive than an ordinary litter box but, it does more than an ordinary litter box and it won’t break the bank!

  • Great for introducing pet chores to kids. It’s easy enough for kids to roll and they won’t be exposed to the dust or clumps. It’s great for teens and pre-teens that don’t want the responsibility but they should start learning everything that involves owning a cat.

Omega Paw Easy Fill Roll ‘n Clean - CONS

  • You have to be gentle with it. It is made of plastic, like I said before, it’s just a step up from traditional litter boxes. Nothing fancy or heavy duty. So keep that in mind and it will last you for a long time as long as you treat her nicely.

  • Flat surface alert, your cat might want to sleep on top. It’s hard to keep flat surfaces empty around the house so, I use the top of the box as a cat bed. I placed a self warming blanket on top so there is always a cat sleeping on top of the box. One of the cons for me will be to have to wake a sleeping kitty to be able to roll this thing over. Honestly, sometimes I just scoop it out (the traditional way) to avoid disturbing the sleeping baby.

  • Do not over fill. It can bee too heavy for the box to hold the heavy clumps and extra litter when rolling it.

  • Litter clumps might get stuck. They do get stuck at the bottom specially if you don’t keep enough litter in there. It might also get stuck below the drawer or on the grate. Just make sure to use good quality litter to avoid that. And clean it regularly!

  • Easy-fill hood feature did not work for me. It wouldn’t be right for me to skip the fact that the little hood thing in the front did not work for me at all. It was too wobbly and I have kittens who play with everything that slightly moves and are programed to destroy. I tried taping it for a while but then I just removed it and been using it without it since. It does not affect the way the litter box works. So it’s all good, we all have defects, I still love her. Just keep that in mind. They also have other models without that piece I’n case you have crazy cats like mine.

  • It will stink if you don’t clean it often. Just like ANY other litter box, it must be put apart and cleaned thoroughly from time to time. I would say every 2 to 3 months is good enough.

  • You need extra space to roll. You not only need the space for the actual box, you do need double the space to roll it/clean it.

Omega Paw Easy Fill Roll ‘n Clean - FINAL THOUGHTS

It’s all about you. Some people hated it, I LOVED it. I would say,

just don’t think of it as a self cleaning box, since it doesn’t actually get clean by self. Think of it as a step up from a traditional litter box.

You don’t have to scoop the litter out every day, that’s all. It sure is good enough for me!

Just like any other litter box, you have to put it apart and clean it thoroughly every once in a while. I know that’s hard… I’ve done it a couple of times since I got it which is not very sanitary. I would recommend wiping it clean and changing the litter completely every 2 to 3 months.

Scroll through over 500 comments of people who loved and hated this item

If you still need more info, I recommend scrolling through the comment section on my Omega Paw 1st Use Tiktok video (it’s in the how to use seccion as well). It has over 500 comments from people speaking from their own personal experience. You will find tons of people speaking about what they like and what they don’t like about this litter box. It seem to have worked wonders for some people who have owned this item for years, people who owns over 5 of this boxes and will never go back to traditional litter boxes, people who absolutely love this item!. And, there is also people who didn’t like this item, they didn’t like the shape of it, their cats didn’t like it, or the item simply didn't work out for them. I’ve learned so much about this item just from other people’s perspectives.

My cats love it, I love it. I will always give it a 10/10.

Feel free to ask me anything you might want to know in the comments section at the end of this post before purchasing this item.
