My cat’s experience with this Peek & Play Pop Up Tent

We’ve had this toy since I rescued my first kitten, Toulouse in 2020. She was almost a couple months old when we picked her up from the streets. It did take her a couple of days to get use to the us and our home but, she was too young to worry about that for too much longer, her mind quickly switch to wanting to play and eat all day. She loved this toy! Shortly after, we rescued her sister, Penny Lane, who was a few weeks older than Toulouse. It took them about a week or so to get used to each other…

This toy definitely played a part in helping them bond so quickly.

One of them would get in the tent and it would tempt the other one to chase her and play with her. They had the best time playing together with this Peek & Play Pop-Up Tent. I can assure you if you have a kitten, you need this cat toy!

It really doesn’t matter if you have 1 kitten or 9!

A few months later, we rescued their younger sibling, an orange tabby named Finneas. Even though they were all related, it still took them about a month to get used to their new sibling. This toy helped us a lot by keeping Finneas distracted the first couple of weeks. Finneas would play by himself while the other two would just stare at him from a distance.

It wasn’t all in good faith tho, Penny Lane did get territorial and possessive of the toy and slapped Finneas a couple of times (see last video on the instagram post attached). Introducing cats is a whole process and it takes time for them to get along. Eventually though, I believe the same thing happened where this toy helped them all bond. They would see Finneas playing around and little by little they all started playing together.

It’s too tempting for them to see the ball bouncing around, the crinkling sound of the inside mat, their arms popping out of the holes on the sides… it’s very fun, very entertaining for kittens! Plus, is super cute to watch them play in it. They really go crazy with it and they start diving through the holes and jumping on the tent and running through it.

A few moths later, we adopted another kitty from the shelter, Layla. So we had to go through cat introductions again… They took a little longer to accept Layla so she did play by her self a lot with this toy. She used to sleep in it too, it made her feel safe.

Sometimes I would put this toy away for a few weeks and then when I bring it back out it’s like a whole new toy for to them and they go crazy all over again.

here is one of the foster fail pack, Juno.

About 8 months after all this, we decided to foster 4 kittens that were found on the streets. They were tiny and very scared the first few days. My cats were so annoyed by us bring all these new kittens home but, the shelter had no one to foster them, we had to. This toy definitely help our foster kitties feel more confortable at our home. They loved to play with it. By now, 4 kittens had already played like crazy with this toy and it was still in good shape! Some of the older cats started playing with the kittens, it was all very cute, very fun! And yeah, we kept the foster kitties. #fosterfail

Guess what? A few months after, we adopted ANOTHER LITTLE KITTY from craigslist. And yeah, of course she had her own time with the same old toy/tent! She loved it, she had tons of fun with it. And again it played a part with her bonding with her siblings.

We really squeezed out the life out of the toy and we still use it!. I must say, after 9 kittens/cats playing like crazy with this tent, it did eventually started “falling apart”. The hanging toys detached from the tent, the cats scratched the fabric so now it has some holes in it… but we still use it! I think is well worth the money and even if it would have fallen apart after the first 2 cats, I would have bought it again! Honestly, I am nor personally selling this item, I am telling you from my own personal experience, your cat will love this toy and it won’t break the bank.

Peek & Play Pop Up Tent - PROS

  • Kittens Favorite! Kittens and cats go bananas with this toy!

  • Keeps them entertained for hours, giving you a break!

  • Several different ways to play such as the “Peek -a-boo” holes on sides and the two dangling toys to keep them entertained

  • Fun crinkling mat (which cats love)

  • Great for single and/or multiple cats!

  • Perfect size, not too big nor too small

  • It’s Collapsible! Very easy way to put up and/or put away

Peek & Play Pop Up Tent - CONS

  • Eventually, if you don’t trim your cat’s nails, they will start ripping off the fabric.

  • Eventually they will play so hard with it that they will detach the ball and feather.

  • You might accidentally bend the wire the wrong way when putting it away. Just be careful when folding it to put it away, just like with any tent

  • Some people have mentioned this toy might be too small for adult cats. It’s really going to be up to your cat. I have 3 adult cats and they still like to play with it. I’ve read reviews on Amazon, Walmart and Chewy and they all have people that say that this toy is great for adult cats and some people say it just didn’t worked out for them. Just keep in mind the size of it is 8.5” x 14.8” x 24”

Peek & Play Pop Up Tent - FINAL THOUGHTS

I think this is a must-have for cat parents or foster parents, especially if you have young kittens

It is very important for your kitten to stay active, to have daily play time, just like children. They will find something else in your house to play with if you don’t get them cat toys to get distracted with. Not only that, a lot of cat toys require some extra effort from you. I do think we should all take a few minutes to actually play with our kittens from time to time but that being said, we can’t interact with them all day every day! We have to deal with life, we have jobs or things to do around the house.

If you have a kitten, don’t look any further, give this toy a try and I bet your cat will love it! And you will too since it will keep them distracted for long periods of time, giving you a break!

I can’t speak for older cats, my oldest cat is almost 2 years old so she is still very playful and active. I’ve had 10 kittens play with this same pop up tent I bought back in 2020 and they ALL enjoy it very much. I didn’t realize about the cons until my last set of kittens so, for sure is well built and durable, it took a while for them to rip off the toys and rip holes in the fabric. Supervise your pet, toy should be removed and replaced if excessive wear or damage occurs.

I would definitely get it again and recommend it till the end of time!
